A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to sit and talk with Toni. We talked about people and things we cared about, and especially the people we loved. We shared what was important to us in our lives; the things we really valued. Toni told me she was really tired, and then she said to me “You know, this has been the longest time we have ever talked”. I said yes, and then added, “But if this is the longest time we have ever talked, the second longest time was the night I told you that I was going to marry your daughter”. I married Gail two years and seven months later. Ma was a really good woman. She believed in God and the Holy Family, her children, and the people she loved. She enjoyed telling a story every now and then, and a lot of times they had very funny endings. She had no trouble making you laugh, and if she really wanted to she would have you falling out of your chair. She was also serious and very loving, and if she thought you needed a talking to she readily volunteered. I believe the most defining moments in my life with Ma were our two long conversations: the first one when I was in Hong Kong, and the second was a few weeks ago. Everything else in between was the icing and the gravy. Ma was really good to me. Whenever she saw me she would brighten up and say “Oh, Jeff”. I will always love you, Ma, and you will be forever in my heart. I love you! Your son-in-law, Jeff

I was lucky enough to hold her hand and whisper comforting words during her last moments. Writing this was by far the saddest things I ever had to do. Felix ____________________________ Antoinette Giuffrida was born Antonietta Onopria Rosa D’oro Most of you know her as Toni. She was born in New York City where she met her first Love, the Statue of Liberty. Toni was the youngest of 7 children: Luciana, Mary, Josephine, Rosalie, Phil and Joseph. All have passed on, coincidently in the order that they were born. Her parents moved to America from Sicily, leaving her oldest sister Luicina behind because she was married. Toni finally met her oldest sister in 1984 when she was 56. Things were very different in 1928. When she was born, her parents couldn’t decide on a name for her for almost 2 years. They said she looked like a Doll, hence, she was called DOLLY. She married and moved to Boston in 1948, had 5 children, 11 grandchildren, and 1great grand-daughter. She had more than a 50 year friendship with her Revere neighbors: Annette, Tony, Mona, Marie and AL. ( I’m sure they could tell you some stories) Toni loved Cruises, her mink coat, and singing. (and she could really sing). She would teach her 5 children songs at the dinner table, which they could only sing at home. (We later found out that Derby town was not on the radio’s top 40 list.) Her specialty was making people laugh, and her passion was cooking. You could hear her laughing so hard that you just had to laugh along with her. She loved to cook the old fashioned Italian way. No measuring, and NO matter what she put together, it tasted Great, and there was always lots of leftovers. It was actually only a couple of days ago that she gave Cassandra the recipe for her Sicilian Salad, and Gail the recipe for the stuffed peppers, warning both of them not to give the recipes to Felix. Toni could talk to her family on the phone for hours at a time. She had 2 people on speed dial, her Doctor and her Attorney. Both men gained 20 pounds knowing her! Toni was very patriotic. She supported veterans groups and the Statue of Liberty Preservation foundation. She was passionate when she wrote her poems about God, Country and those that she loved. Toni loved her friends Joan and Janet, godparents Nick and Karen, and they regularly attended Father Paco’s Bible class. Her priest and friend, Father Paco blessed her, gave her confidence, comfort and peace, preparing her for her new journey. This is a short paragraph from a Poem she wrote titled, “Always”: There are so many ways to using the word “always”. It can be used to show love, caring, things in the past and tender moments such as “ I’ll always be there if you need me”. I’ll never forget our precious moments together, moments of special places. You are always on my mind. You will always be my best friend, and I’ll love you always till the day I die.
